This delightful dish can be the perfect dessert, with coffee, or a wonderful midday snack to push through till dinner. I have even eaten it for breakfast smothered in melted butter.

Ingredients
  • 1. 2 cup flour
  • 2. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 5. 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6. 1/2 cup sugar
  • 7. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 8. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 9. 1/2 cup butter
  • 10. 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 11. 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 12. 2 apples, peeled and sliced
Directions
  • Step 1 In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in 2 tablespoons butter until mixture is crumbly. Set aside.
  • Step 2 Combine remaining flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in 1/2 cup butter, add buttermilk, and egg. Stir until just moistened
  • Step 3 Spread in 9-inch baking pan and arrange apples over the top. Sprinkle crumbly mixture over the top. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes.
